This project occupies the historic soap mill building that previously housed the world famous “Sankeys” nightclub. Urban Splash took possession of the building shortly after the club closed and the 10,000 sq.ft space that was once the club was leased by the Trust. The buildings listed status meant that the stripped-out core of the space had to be left exposed wherever possible, along with the appreciation of the original length and breadth of the mill space. Subdivision was discouraged and interventions were to be kept as light as possible. The interior aesthetic was influenced by the buildings raw brick and steel finishes, accommodating an open plan agile work environment that provided cost effective, sustainable and efficient premises for the Trust in the heart of Manchester.
