Film Studio, Queen’s University
A highly restricted site to the rear of the Queens Film Theatre in Belfast formed the context to this project. The brief seemed relatively simple with the core of the project focussing on a 13m L x 12m W x 13m H volume creating the sound stage, which was to have no natural light and as little audible interference from outside as possible. The technical challenge revolved round creating environmental quality of the space alongside coordination of services within the confines of the site. The Studio also included editing suites, green room facilities and was fully accessible throughout. It is known to be one of the most energy efficient film studios on the island of Ireland.
